NK’MIP (pronounced ‘in-ka-meep’) means ‘bottomland’ in the Okanagan language and refers to the north end of Lake Osoyoos, where the river meets the lake.

It's here, at the southernmost tip of the Okanagan, where the Great Basin Desert ends, making this region truly unique as Canada’s only desert. In 1984 there were only 13 wineries in operation in BC. In 2008 there are 132.
